The governed route

The canonical flow.

Every layer in the platform performs exactly one job, in exactly one place. If a layer can be skipped, the story collapses.

Walkthrough

Step by step.

What happens at each stage of the governed route.

Step 01

The client brings a problem

A consequential business problem arrives in ordinary language — a safety action, a maintenance task, an operational exception, a governed use of AI. No special format is required.

Step 02

FORGE structures the problem

FORGE interprets the intent, extracts the required work, and produces a structured brief: what is being asked, what outcome is needed, what constraints apply. It determines the governed route the work must take.

Step 03

Passport verifies authority

The actor — human, service or autonomous system — is bound to a specific, scoped authority. Passport confirms that authority is current, not revoked, and appropriate for the requested action.

Step 04

Guardian decides

Guardian evaluates authority, policy, risk, evidence and control requirements. It returns one of four decisions: allow, allow with limits, require human approval, or deny. Nothing consequential proceeds without this decision.

Step 05

Authorised work executes

If Guardian allows it, the work proceeds under the specific authority and controls stated. If Guardian requires human approval, the work pauses and escalates. If Guardian denies it, the work stops and the reasoning is recorded.

Step 06

Sentinel records the state

Sentinel presents the live operational state of the work — running, waiting, approved, blocked, completed — with the actor, the authority, the decision and the outcome visible for each item.

Step 07

VAULT preserves the evidence

VAULT seals the durable record behind the outcome: what was requested, what authority was held, what decision was made, what happened, and what evidence accompanies it. The record stands long after the work is complete.

Step 08

FORGE returns the outcome

FORGE returns the resolved work to the client, together with the record, the decisions and any residual matters. The client sees not only the outcome but the governed route that produced it.

When things don't go straight through

What happens when the route is interrupted.

The governed route handles the difficult cases as explicitly as the easy ones. Nothing is left to convention.

Case A

Authority is missing

If Passport cannot find a valid authority for the requested action, the request does not reach Guardian. It is returned to FORGE with the reason — no standing authority held, expired, or not scoped to this action — and the client is informed.

Case B

Guardian blocks the action

If Guardian denies the action, it returns the decision with its reasoning. The work does not proceed. The decision is recorded by Sentinel, preserved by VAULT, and returned to the client through FORGE — with a full record of what was declined and why.

Case C

Human approval is required

If Guardian requires human approval, the work pauses. Sentinel shows the item as waiting. The named approver is notified. Their decision — approve or decline — is recorded, and the work either resumes or is returned to FORGE accordingly.

Case D

Work is halted mid-execution

If work is halted — through policy change, loss of authority, or an operational interrupt — Sentinel records the halt and its reason. The outcome and partial record return to the client through FORGE. Nothing is left unresolved.

The outcome

What the client receives.

At the end of the route, the client receives more than a result. They receive the whole governed record behind it.

Outcome

The resolved work

The answer to the original problem — a completed action, a decision, a resolved exception — returned in a form the client can use.

Record

The governed route

The decisions taken along the way — authority verified, policy checked, risk evaluated, outcome reached — available for review.

Evidence

The durable proof

The evidence preserved in VAULT, available to the client, their auditors, and any regulator or board that needs to see it.
